Engineer supported this proposal strongly, and somewhat

prematurely communicated it to the Consulting Engineers in

his letter No. 49 of 21st. December, 1907.

After careful consideration,

however, it appeared to me that a better site would be

found on Kowloon Inland Lots 1141, 443, 442 and 618 pro-

-vided that it was found possible to curve the line round

into this site without a prohibitive radius. The Chief

Resident Engineer reported to me that there was no dif-

-ficulty in this matter but it would involve on the one

hand taking up a corner of Blackhead's Lots for the

shoulder of the curve and on the other hand the network of

sidings would involve a breadth of some 90 feet over Des

Voeux Road in the immediate present, and an eventual

breadth of about 190 feet when all the Station Platforms

were built. The accompanying plan will illustrate my mean-

-ing.

The new proposal (which I will

call scheme 3) had the following advantages over that of

the Director of Public Works (which I will call scheme 2):-

(a)

Scheme 2 involved the resumption of so large a

part of Lots 1141 - 618 both on account of

the widening of Middle Road on the North
